A strange thing happened today. When I tried to shutdown Linux Mint, the system rebooted. I had a couple of tries but was unable to turn off my laptop computer. This was a new problem for me. It’s never happened before.
I was pretty sure it’s possible to shutdown a Linux system via the terminal but couldn’t remember the correct command. A websearch soon provided the answer: sudo poweroff
The next time I tried to shutdown the system it worked normally, so it must have been some kind of one-off glitch.
Nevertheless, if you are searching for information about how to shutdown Linux Mint from terminal / via the command line, you may find sudo poweroff is the answer. It certainly solved the problem for me.
